What it downloads

One search covers every format. Look the account up once, then download from whichever tab has what you need.

Photos save as JPG and videos as MP4, at the resolution Instagram serves, which is the resolution they were uploaded at. Nothing is re-encoded in between, so downloading does not cost quality.

Every format is covered from the same lookup: posts including all carousel items, reels, currently live stories, complete highlight albums, and full-size profile pictures. You can take a single item or a whole tab as one zip file.

Saved files are named with the date and time they were posted, so a folder of downloads stays in chronological order instead of arriving as a pile of random identifiers. The file extension is taken from the actual file data rather than a guess, so a video never lands with a photo extension.

One lookup, every format, saved at the resolution Instagram serves.

Downloading Instagram content

Instagram serves its media from a content delivery network, and each file has a normal address like any other image or video on the web. Downloading is simply a matter of requesting that file rather than displaying it, which is why the saved copy is identical to what you were watching.

What complicates it in practice is that those addresses are signed and short-lived, and that Instagram only serves them when the request looks like it came from Instagram. That is why saving directly from a browser often produces a broken or low-resolution file, and why a tool is needed to do it reliably.

Quality, formats and watermarks

Photos arrive as JPG and video as MP4. Because there is no re-encoding step, there is no generational loss: the file on your disk is the file Instagram served.

No watermark is added here. Watermarks that were burned into a video before it was uploaded are part of the image data itself and cannot be removed by downloading, regardless of what any tool claims.

What you may do with a download

This is the part worth being direct about. Downloading a file does not transfer any rights to it. The person who created a photo, video or reel holds its copyright, and that is unaffected by the content being public or by you having a copy.

Saving material for private reference, research or archiving your own posts is ordinary. Republishing someone else’s work, using it commercially, or presenting it as your own is not, and needs their permission. Where music is involved, the soundtrack may be licensed separately from the video, so clearing the video alone may not be enough.

What cannot be downloaded

Private accounts serve nothing to non-followers, so nothing can be saved from them. Expired stories are no longer served to anyone. Deleted posts are gone. In each case the limitation is on Instagram’s side, not something a tool chooses to enforce.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What formats are downloads saved in?

Photos as JPG and videos as MP4, at the resolution Instagram serves them.

Does downloading reduce quality?

No. Files are transferred as served with no re-encoding, so the saved copy matches what you watched.

Can I download from private accounts?

No. Instagram does not serve private content to anyone outside the approved follower list.

Can I download expired stories?

No. Once 24 hours pass the media is no longer served. Only stories saved to highlights remain.

Am I allowed to repost what I download?

Not without permission. Downloading transfers no rights — the creator keeps copyright, and licensed music may need separate clearance.

Is there a watermark on downloads?

Nothing is added here. A watermark already burned into the video by the creator stays, because it is part of the video data.
